Fintan McHugh is a creator in music, film and circus. He was born in Dublin into a musical household. Son of Derry uilleann piper Joe McHugh he has inherited a love and passion for Irish songs and music. Late into the nights of irish music sessions Fintan as small child encircled by musicians would eventually fall asleep in his fathers uilleann pipe box all snug in a sleeping bag. In his slumbers still hearing and soaking up the tunes and energy. His Swiss mother Lizzie plays passionately Bach and irish tunes on the fiddle and viola.

He has lived in Ireland, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium exploring an assortment of artistic avenues such as attending a physical theatre school, learning musical instrument-making, step dancing (sean-nós), circus disciplines and gigging as a singer and multi-instrumentalist.

In the spirit of the traveling troubadour Fintan released two solo albums singing and accompanying himself on the guitar, a self-made Irish 10-string bouzouki and harmonica.

In his fathers Irish traditional group Amongst Friends he sings, plays guitar, cittern, Indian harmonium, harmonicas, piano and dances sean-nós step dancing.

In 2023 his first shortfilm My Old Love in collaboration with Berlin director Fabian Forbalski was finalised and has started touring film festivals.

My Old Love picked up three nominations at the Dublin International Shortfilm and Music Festival for Best International Shortfilm, Best Music/Score and Best Actor. Fintan McHugh won the Award for Best Actor.

Currently Fintan is working on a new live show project combining music, circus, dance and performance together…
